To me, core competencies are really about how you show up in your day-to-day work and how you grow from the experiences along the way.
Developing Competencies & the EPS Website
It all started with a calendar.

During my first summer, I was asked to help by adding events to the website calendar. It was the first time I contributed to something outside of the admissions team, which felt exciting—and a little intimidating, since I had almost no experience with websites. That project was also my first cross-team collaboration at EPS. Little did I know, this project with Derek would open the door to a whole new set of skills and opportunities.
While working on the website, I’ve experienced all the core skills, which you’ll spot throughout this section.
Putting the ‘Site’ in Admission Insight

As spring and summer planning picked up for admissions, we noticed the website needed some updates—many of them time sensitive. At that point, all changes were being submitted through Derek. But I was feeling more confident, so with Cheryl’s encouragement, I went back to Derek to see if I could take on some of those updates myself. With training and guidance, I started managing the admissions section of the website.
With Cheryl and Derek’s guidance, I eventually revamped the Admissions section of the website. You can follow the timeline of this transformation in Putting the ‘Site’ in Admission Insight.
Web Update Team
Fast forward a bit, and I’m now part of the Web Update Team, regularly making forward-facing updates across the whole school website.
Clicking Together: The EICL Edition
Over my time at EPS, I have witnessed (and participated a bit) in the tremendous growth around EICL. After completing the Admissions page updates, I was excited to put my new skills to work by updating the EICL pages and sharing our story. This project also opened the door to another great collaboration—with Bess, Ed, and, indirectly, the EICL Stirring Committee.

You can explore the EICL journey in Clicking Together: The EICL Edition.
Supportive by Design
Why stop now? Let’s keep growing and sharing the amazing EPS story!
I teamed up with Jamie and Cheryl to dive into the Learning Support section of the website. Neurodiversity is core to who we are at EPS, and it’s something that truly sets us apart. Our website needed to reflect that story loud and clear!

Check out the before, after, and everything in between on the Supportive by Design page.
Reflection
What began as a small, simple task unexpectedly grew into something much bigger. Along the way, I quietly developed new skills, worked with people from different departments, and slowly built my confidence by embracing the opportunities that came my way. To me, that’s what developing competencies truly means—starting with a small “yes,” staying open to learning, and letting each step gently guide you forward.
